RUNWAY Senior Designers: Jakilah Greene




This plant [the Siberian Iris] is a very adaptable plant and the theme pushes change and adaptation with pushing boundaries to prepare for the future.

What does Provoking Protopias mean to you and how is that displayed through your collection? Everyone has a different perspective on this complex topic. Greene explains what its means to her by mentioning the Siberian Iris. "I used this plant to connect to Provoking Protopia with the purples and greens that the Siberian Iris contains. This plant is a very adaptable plant and the theme pushes change and adaptation with pushing boundaries to prepare for the future.



What has been your favorite part so far in creating your collection/ garments? As the designer starts her collection she states " my favorite part would have to be the fabric selection. Theres so many options and choices to pick from. Greene also enjoys the sketching ideas" its like brainstorming and seeing what I can come up with and fixing ideas to make them better until I come up with a final design".


What do you hope to have people take away after seeing Provoking Protopias? This is a highly anticipated show that everyone is excited to see. With this hype the designer mentions " I want people to see the talent that we [the students and department] have to offer. I want them to see how great this opportunity is for us and our creations . I also want people to see everyones work and dedication into each piece made"


What was your inspiration to start working in fashion/textile design? "I've always been artistic" Greene explains, "my first choice was vet tech but I struggled a bit and switched to fashion my Sophomore year of college here at Buffalo State. Along with being artistic and talented the designer gives credit to her brother saying " he inspired me with his talent in art and drawing" she has his art hung in her room as well.
