Provoking Protopia to me is building on the past and combing it with elements of the present to create a better future.
What does Provoking Protopia mean to you and how is that displayed through your collection?
Provoking Protopia to me is building on the past and combing it with elements of the present to create a better future. My collection illustrates this idea by drawing on classic 1950’s silhouettes for some designs, mixed with color-blocking from the 60’s-80’s. As well as adding popular design elements from today such as crop tops, distressing, upcycling, and paper bag shorts.
What was your inspiration to start working in fashion/textile design?
My inspiration is from nature and the world around me when I am designing.
What has been your favorite part so far in creating your collection/garments?
I love seeing my outfits come together with the fabric choices I have picked. It feels nice to have work completed and see something I designed come to life. This is my first time developing my own patterns to work on clothing so it feels very rewarding.
What do you hope to have people take away after seeing Provoking Protopia?
I hope people take away that the world can be looked at in a positive light. It can be bright and colorful and beautiful. Times have been taking a dark turn but with the progressive change we can return to the joyful place we once provided many people.
